This project turned out to be the largest brick order I helped to secure. Competition for an order for 1,400,000 bricks was naturally fierce. Suppliers were invited to tender for the supply and had to provide site reference panels for inspection by the Managing Director on a given date.
In order to meet the deadline, I had to drive a hire van to the Tilmanstone Brick Works near Dover in Kent , and return the same afternoon with the 60 bricks to the site in E14. The site reference panel was hastily built, and approved the following morning.
A hard fought order, with a 2 year maintenance of call-off schedules was a valuable experience , not since repeated on such a large scale
